A must see exhibition of @johnburninghamofficial ‘s artworks at Mottisfont House near Romsey.

By far the best and most complete exhibition I’ve seen of his Children’s book art.

Two things became immediately apparent to me…

Firstly the variety of media he employed- he was constantly experimenting and pushing boundaries throughout his career. You get an inkling of this from his books but lots is lost in reproduction, especially in the earlier books. To actually see the juxtaposition position of paper, ink, paint and texture is a pure joy!

And secondly the detail and the sense of touch in his drawing, subtle mark making which you can fully appreciate when seeing his art up close. Some of the gestures are barely there, but every one has poise and meaning.

There are also some drawings scored out, with ‘DO NOT USE!’ Which I think shows how rigorous he must have been with his intentions.

Can’t recommend it enough! I hope it tours.

Incredibly proud to be included in a stella lineup

Incredibly proud to be included in a stella lineup of illustrators selected for Michael Rosen: the Illustrators Exhibition at @heathrobinsonmuseum A great accolade to show alongside #HelenOxenbury, @quentinblakehq , #MichaelForeman, #TonyRoss, @korkypaul and many other absolute greats of Children’s Book Illustration who I have admired for decades!🌟 The show runs until 22nd September and is very child, and illustrator friendly, with artworks hung low for little legs, and details showing how books are made.

Lovely also to catch up with @davidmelling_illustrator Melling and @johnhegleyluton and of course #MichaelRosen

Thanks also to @bloomsburychildrens organising rights for my images in the exhibition.
